Tony Norris Award Winner 2013

The Upper Midwest Section (UMS) is pleased to announce it has awarded Colin Cook of Hennepin Technical College with the Tony Norris Scholarship for Fall of 2013.  Mr. Cook also received a check for $400 to use toward his education.  Mr. Cook is excelling in his studies at HTC in the Plastics Engineering Technology Program and is looking forward to a career in plastics.  Mr. Cook will finish his studies Spring Semester of 2014 and is looking for a dynamic company to join.  The Upper Midwest Section looks forward to having Mr. Cook as a continuing member of the Society of Plastic Engineers (SPE) and will support him as a member in the plastics industry.

Middle School & High School Awards

The Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) "Wonders of Plastics" Essay Contest [hyperlink: http://www.4spe.org/essay-contest] is open to all junior high and high school students.  The essay must be sponsored by a teacher and submitted to the Upper Midwest Section Scholarship Committee (see below) before January 15th.  Upper Midwest Section will recognize the 3 best (qualified) papers submitted:

Papers not meeting the qualifications of the Co-Chairs will not be considered, and in the event not enough awards meet the Co-Chair’s criteria, the Section may not grant one or more awards.  The essay recognized as “First Place” by the Upper Midwest Section Scholarship Committee will be published in the Section newsletter, and forwarded to SPE Headquarters for judging at the international level.

Before starting work on your essay, please review all criteria on SPE’s Wonders of Plastics Essay Contest website [hyperlink: http://www.4spe.org/essay-contest].  Entry forms may be copied, but each essay must be attached to a form; essay will not be returned and will become property of SPE. Essays may be co-authored.
